ATLANTA — Former Braves outfielder Brian Jordan made sure he didn’t miss Grammy-winning rap artist Ludacris’ performance after Atlanta’s 5-3 win over the Phillies Saturday at Turner Field.
After all, it was Jordan who used Ludacris’ hit song “Welcome to Atlanta” as his walk-up song while he was with the Braves.
Ludacris performed as part of the Civil Rights Game Weekend, which culminates Sunday when the Braves and Phillies square off in the finale of a three-game series.
Ludacris ran to the stage from the Braves’ dugout along the first-base line, sporting a personalized Braves jersey with his name on the back.
Performing alongside fellow artists DJ Khaled, Jermaine Dupri and Ciara, Ludacris played some of his most popular songs in a one-hour performance, including songs like “Roll Out,” “Money Maker,” and “How Low.”
Several hundred fans gathered below the stage set up on the basepaths while thousands of others watched from the stands.
“We came to like eight or nine games last year, but this was really the only weekend we could come,” said Kyle Hyatt, a 26-year-old from Greenville, S.C. “So it’s a blessing that Ludacris is here.”
One of the bigger reactions early on came to their performance of “All I Do is Win,” which Ludacris segued into by referencing a popular Braves player.
“As I understand it, the Braves beat the Phillies [Saturday],” Ludacris yelled to the crowd. “A shout out to my man Brian McCann because every time he comes out on the field all he does is win.”
Ludacris, a native of Atlanta, still made sure the fans in attendance recognized the point of the weekend’s festivities, and honored Rev. Jesse Jackson on stage toward the end of his performance.
“Since this man stood up for us, I think we need to stand up for him,” Ludacris said.
Ludacris, whose legal name is Christopher Bridges, has sold more than 12 million albums domestically and has been nominated for 17 Grammy Awards, taking home three of them… link to entire article:
